VÖLKEL Environmental Management
For a
shared
future
Ecological responsibility – not as an obligation, but as a mindset.
What we do for the environment
Ecological responsibility begins right on our doorstep
As a company, we are committed to protecting the environment and actively working to take ecological responsibility. In cooperation with the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, we carried out the renaturation of the Morsbach in order to restore the ecological balance and reduce the potential risk of flooding.
We are also committed to the environment on our company premises: large natural green spaces, a productive garden with fruit trees and berry bushes, as well as special flowering plants that attract bees and other insects.
Our company building was constructed to the latest technical standards with a strong focus on energy efficiency. For shipping, we use old cardboard boxes as recyclable filling material and work with carefully selected climate-neutral transport service providers.
At VÖLKEL, we strive to keep our ecological footprint as small as possible – so that our planet remains worth living on for future generations as well. Sustainable action is our top priority.
Energy efficiency
Our building was designed according to the latest technical standards to save energy and permanently reduce CO₂ emissions.
Natural green spaces
Orchards, berry bushes and flowering plants create habitat on our premises for insects, birds and people alike.
Sustainable packaging
Used cardboard as recyclable filling material and consistently climate-neutral transport chains – sustainability does not end at our operations.

Water level measuring station
at the Morsbach
Taking responsibility for the valley – with technology that warns early and protects lives.
The Morsbach does not just run past our company premises – it also crosses parts of our site. Even before the flood disaster of 14 July 2021, we had already taken precautionary action: the stream was renatured and significantly widened to give the water more space.
However, the events of 2021 showed how quickly a supposedly small stream can become an acute danger. Bridges were damaged, roads were washed away, and basements were flooded. For many people and businesses in the Morsbach valley, entire livelihoods were at stake.
That is why, together with LANUV NRW (State Agency for Nature, Environment and Climate of North Rhine-Westphalia), we are participating in the new water level measuring station. The station continuously records the water level, transmits the data digitally and enables authorities, emergency services and residents to respond early and based on facts.
“If we work and live here, we bear responsibility for this place. A functioning water level monitoring system serves not only us, but everyone along the Morsbach.”
Live measurement data
Current water levels in real time
As soon as the station is operational, the Morsbach measurement data will be continuously transmitted to LANUV NRW and made publicly accessible. Facts instead of estimates – for faster responses and better risk assessment.

Responsibility for the region.
Anyone who works here is part of this valley – and helps protect it. Sustainable action is our top priority, because only then can we remain future-proof as a company. We will keep you updated on the next steps.
