Tap wrenches, die holders and extensions
Without the right holder, the best threading tool stays unused. Here you find adjustable tap wrenches to DIN 1814 for hand taps, die holders to DIN 225 for round dies, tap extensions to DIN 377 for deep-lying threads, ratchet tool holders for tight spots and die guides for squarely started external threads. Tap wrenches and holders come in zinc die-cast and in steel.

Which tap wrench for which tap?
The tap wrench is chosen by the square of the tap. The sizes to DIN 1814 overlap, so one or two wrenches cover everyday work:
- No. 0: square 2.0 to 5.0 mm, length 130 mm
- No. 1: 2.0 to 6.3 mm, 176 mm
- No. 1½: 2.1 to 8.0 mm, 176 mm
- No. 2: 3.0 to 9.0 mm, 280 mm
- No. 3: 4.9 to 12 mm, 380 mm
- No. 4: 5.5 to 16 mm, 500 mm
- No. 5: 7 to 20 mm, 700 mm
- No. 6: 11 to 24 mm, 1,000 mm
- No. 7: 16 to 32 mm, 1,250 mm
- No. 8: 16 to 40 mm, 1,250 mm
- No. 9: 22 to 50 mm, 1,300 mm
For M 3 to M 12, No. 1½ or No. 2 is usually enough. The steel version is the choice for daily use and large threads, the zinc die-cast version for occasional work up to No. 5. A detailed guide is in Choosing the right tap wrench.
Die holders
The holder is chosen by the outside diameter and height of the die, from 16 x 5 mm to 160 x 25 mm and in inch sizes from 13/16 to 4 inches. Square dies have their own holders in sizes 1 and 3. How to find the right one is explained in Choosing the right die holder.
Ratchet tool holders and extensions
The ratchet tool holder for right- and left-hand rotation takes squares from 2.4 to 8.0 mm (M 3 to M 12) and cuts where no tap wrench can swing any more; more in Thread cutting with the ratchet tool holder. Tap extensions to DIN 377 are available for squares from 2.1 to 32 mm. The matching tools are under hand taps and round dies.
