V-COIL rapid: thread repair without a tap wrench
V-COIL rapid brings V-COIL thread repair to the cordless drill. The STI tap has a hexagon drive as a HexTap, so does the STI twist drill, and the installation tool is designed for fast work. That lets you repair a thread on site or in the workshop in a few minutes. Kits are available for M 2.5 to M 12 in coarse and fine thread and for UNC 1/4 and 5/16, plus workshop kits 5 to 12 and 6 to 10.
What is in the kit
Every V-COIL rapid thread repair kit contains the STI HexTap tap in form D, the matching STI twist drill, the installation tool, the tang breaker and wire thread inserts in 1.5 D. Taps and drills are also available singly, for example STI twist drills from 2.6 to 14.4 mm and HexTap taps for STI-M 10 x 1.25 to STI-M 14 x 1.5.
Working with the cordless drill
Drill and tap at the lowest speed setting with maximum torque, keep tool axis and hole axis aligned, use cutting oil. When tapping with the HexTap, reverse briefly after one or two turns so the chip breaks. The insert is then fitted with the installation tool as usual and the tang broken off.
Rapid or classic?
V-COIL rapid is the choice when speed counts and no tap wrench is at hand: maintenance, assembly, vehicle workshop. For large threads from M 14 and for special materials the classic thread repair kits with square-drive tap remain the right choice. Spark plug, oil drain and lambda sensor threads are repaired by V-COIL automotive. Replacement inserts for all kits are under wire thread inserts.
