V-COIL automotive: thread repair on the vehicle
Stripped spark plug threads, overtightened oil drain plugs, damaged lambda sensor threads: V-COIL automotive repairs them without replacing the cylinder head or oil sump. The kits contain STI HexTap taps for cordless drill or ratchet, the matching wire thread inserts and the installation tool. For spark plugs M 14 x 1.25 there are inserts in 9.5, 11.2, 12.7 and 17.5 mm length, for oil drain plugs kits from M 13 to M 24 x 1.5 with sealing rings and new plugs.
Spark plug threads
With spark plug threads there is no drilling out: the STI HexTap cuts the tapped hole directly into the damaged thread, the pilot keeps it aligned. For M 14 x 1.25 choose the insert length by the thread length in the cylinder head (9.5, 11.2, 12.7 or 17.5 mm); kits with several lengths cover unknown heads. For M 10 x 1.0, M 10 x 1.25, M 12 x 1.25 and M 18 x 1.5 there are kits with 1.5 D inserts. The instructions with every step are in Repairing spark plug threads.
Oil drain plug and oil sump
The HexTap OS opens the damaged oil drain thread to the next size, followed by a new oil drain plug type A or B with matching copper or aluminium sealing ring. Kits exist for M 13, M 15, M 17, M 20 and M 24 x 1.5 and as an oil sump repair workshop kit with several sizes. How it is done: Defective oil drain plug? Repair the thread quickly.
Lambda sensor
For the lambda sensor thread M 18 x 1.5 there are kits with HexTap LS and type LS inserts, on request in Inconel X750 for high exhaust temperatures, as well as threaded bushes.
Other repairs
Wheel studs, wheel nuts and other vehicle threads are repaired or recut with a tap and die set. For all other threads on the vehicle use the thread repair kits or V-COIL rapid for the cordless drill.
