Machine nut taps for series production
Cutting threads in nuts produces so much chip that an ordinary tap would have to be cleared constantly. The nut tap solves it differently: it has a long, slim shank onto which the finished nuts are pushed back. The work runs through without reversing. VÖLKEL makes them to DIN 357 in HSSE from M 3 to M 24, plus versions for trapezoidal and left-hand threads.

How the long shank works
The cutting part sits at the front, behind it follows a shank of smaller diameter. After the thread, the cut nut travels onto that shank and stays there while the next one is cut. When the shank is full, the nuts are stripped off. That saves the reverse stroke on every nut and makes the difference as soon as quantities are involved.
The versions
- DIN 357 in HSSE, metric coarse thread from M 3 x 0.5 to M 24 x 3.0. The standard; HSSE also holds up in tough and stainless materials.
- FZ in HSS-G for trapezoidal threads, for example Tr 10 x 2 to Tr 30 x 6, for spindle nuts.
- FZ in HSS-G left-hand for left-hand nut threads.
Do not skimp on lubrication
Because cutting runs without interruption, cooling matters more than on a single thread. Tapping oil or an emulsion is recommended for steel, a cutting oil for non-ferrous metals for those materials. Suitable products are under lubricants.
For single threads in components, machine taps are the right choice, for hand work the hand taps. Finished nut threads are checked with a plug gauge from the thread gauges.
