Tap bits for cordless drills and drilling machines
With bits you cut threads where there is no machine: on site, in maintenance, in small batches. The hexagon drive fits any cordless drill with forward and reverse rotation and any bit ratchet. The bit types compared
HexTap type S
Short machine tap bits with 1/4 inch hexagon in form D for through and blind holes, M 3 to M 12. The cordless drill should deliver at least 7.5 volts and run at the lowest speed setting (up to 450 rpm) with maximum torque. Tool axis and hole axis must be aligned, and a cutting oil is part of the job.
HexTap type DS
Double-ended tap with taper tap and pilot on one end, bottoming tap on the other. The internal hexagon takes a ratchet or angled screwdriver, the external hexagon an open-end spanner. For easily machined materials up to 900 N/mm², for new threads as well as for recutting damaged threads in hard-to-reach places. Details in HexTap: the solution for difficult threads.
Combination bits
Twist drill, tap and countersink in one tool: a combination bit drills the pilot hole, cuts the thread and deburrs the edge. Suitable for steel, non-ferrous metals and plastics up to 600 N/mm², for through-hole threads up to 1 x D thread depth, M 3 to M 10. See it in practice in Combination bit: three operations in one.
HexDrive and TriBit
HexDrive machine taps have a hexagon shank instead of the square and run in bit holders, cordless drills and quick-change chucks; the story behind them is in Machine taps HexDrive. TriBit² are combination and special tools for particular jobs.
