What is the difference between HSS and HSS-E?

HSS-E (High-Speed-Steel with a cobalt content) is an advancement of HSS. The addition of cobalt makes HSS-E significantly harder, more wear-resistant, and more heat-resistant. This makes it better suited for machining harder materials and gives it a longer service life.

Can I also use the taps manually?

Yes, you can also use the machine taps manually with a tap wrench or a suitable tap holder. However, they were primarily developed for use in drilling machines or CNC machines to take full advantage of the spiral point.

What materials is the set not suitable for?

The set is not designed for very hard or high-alloy steels with a tensile strength over 900 N/mm², stainless steels (e.g., V2A/V4A), titanium, or other difficult-to-machine materials. For such applications, we recommend specially coated taps or those made from even harder materials.

Why is the tolerance specification ISO 2 / 6H important?

The tolerance indicates how precisely the cut thread is manufactured. ISO 2 / 6H is the most common and widely used tolerance class for metric threads and guarantees a perfect fit for the screw in the tapped hole.
