STI thread gauges for metric fine thread
A fine thread has a smaller pitch than the coarse thread at the same nominal diameter. It holds preload better, adjusts more finely and stays put where vibration would loosen a coarse thread; in return the thread root is shallower and less forgiving. STI gauges check the oversized thread that later receives a thread insert. It is a series of its own, because the receiving thread is larger than the working thread that follows.
