Hand taps for NPT and NPF pipe threads, tapered
Tapered American pipe threads seal in the thread itself. The 1:16 taper makes the flanks wedge as the joint is tightened. Hand taps are turned by hand in a tap wrench. The thread is cut in several passes, because the work is shared between taper, second and bottoming tap.
