The V-COIL Thread Repair Kit M 14 x 1.25 is a complete repair kit for damaged, stripped or worn M internal threads. It brings together the STI HexTap tap and free-running Type S wire thread inserts required for a controlled repair sequence. Selection is based on the M 14 x 1.25 thread designation and the corresponding STI preparation.

M identifies an ISO metric coarse thread to DIN 13. It is the standard for screw connections in European mechanical engineering, production and maintenance. Spark plug threads do not need to be drilled out; the HexTap SP cuts the STI receiving thread directly into the damaged thread.

Step by step

  1. Inspect the damaged internal thread and confirm that the component structure is suitable for a wire thread insert repair.
  2. Securely align the component and make sure the tool axis follows the existing thread axis.
  3. Cut the STI receiving thread with the HexTap SP directly into the damaged spark plug thread; drilling out is not required.
  4. Clean the receiving thread thoroughly and remove all chips from the repair area.
  5. Place the wire thread insert into the inserting tool and guide it straight to the receiving thread.
  6. Install the insert in a controlled movement in the thread direction until the intended installation position is reached; never turn it against the running direction.
  7. Remove the driving tang with pointed pliers, as is usual for large sizes.
  8. Check the repaired thread with a matching screw or suitable inspection method.
