Causes of Damaged Spark Plug Threads

Damaged threads are often caused by improper installation or removal, wrong torque, high heat or material fatigue. Aluminum cylinder heads are particularly sensitive. Consequences include misfires, loss of power, or cylinder head damage.

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preparation: Remove spark plug. Make sure no chips fall into the combustion chamber.
  2. Cut new thread: With socket and ratchet, use the HexTap SP to cut the new oversize thread. Remove chips regularly.
  3. Install insert: Screw insert onto spark plug and install both into the new thread.
  4. Finish: Tighten spark plug and check. Repair completed.
