Application

The V-COIL thread repair kit UNC No. 8 x 32 is a complete repair kit for damaged or worn UNC internal threads in maintenance, assembly, repair work and mechanical engineering. You use the kit when an existing internal thread no longer carries reliably and must be restored with a stainless steel wire thread insert. The decisive selection points are the matching thread size UNC No. 8 x 32, the insert length 1.5D and the correct STI drilling and tapping process.

UNC means Unified National Coarse and is used for inch-based screw connections in technical assemblies, spare parts and imported machinery. The repair workflow follows a clear kit logic: prepare the damaged thread, cut the STI receiving thread, install the wire thread insert and remove the driving tang. The STI twist drill included in this kit is correctly specified as 4.4 mm.

Application

  • for repairing damaged or worn UNC internal threads No. 8 x 32
  • for thread reinforcement in materials with low shear strength
  • for recovering rejected components with damaged internal threads
  • for creating new load-bearing internal threads with a stainless steel wire thread insert
  • for service workshops, maintenance, assembly, metalworking and mechanical engineering
  • Process: manual or assisted drive depending on your tool holder and machine configuration
  • Use: thread cutting, thread reworking and thread cleaning depending on the condition of the thread

Note Before starting the repair, check whether the thread size, insert length and component wall thickness match the intended V-COIL repair.

Benefits

  • complete kit with STI tap, STI twist drill, installation tool, tang breaker and wire thread inserts
  • stainless steel inserts improve the load capacity of the repaired internal thread
  • Type S is free running and designed for standardized thread repair work
  • DIN 8140 and ISO 2 (6H) support a repair process based on recognized standards
  • plastic case keeps the kit components organized and ready for use
  • suitable for manual repair work directly on components, fixtures or assemblies
Disadvantages
  • The repair requires a clean drilled hole and a correctly cut STI receiving thread, so the kit components should be used in the correct sequence.

Step by step

  1. Clean the damaged internal thread and remove loose particles so the drill can be guided correctly.
  2. Drill out the damaged thread area with the STI twist drill included in the kit.
  3. Cut the receiving thread with the STI tap and suitable cutting fluid.
  4. Clean the cut receiving thread and remove chips completely.
  5. Place the wire thread insert into the hand installation tool and align it straight to the thread.
  6. Screw in the insert until it sits flush with or slightly below the component surface.
  7. Remove the driving tang with the tang breaker.
  8. Check the repaired internal thread with a suitable screw or an appropriate inspection tool.
