Application

The P.V.23 hand tap set is a 30-piece threading tool set for metric ISO internal threads from M 3 to M 12. It combines seven HSS-G hand tap sets according to DIN 352, the matching HSS twist drills for core hole preparation, and two holding tools for controlled manual tapping work.

This makes the set especially useful for workshops, assembly work, maintenance, repair jobs, and service departments where common metric internal threads need to be prepared, cut, corrected, or cleaned. With core drills, first taps, second taps, finishing taps, an adjustable tap wrench, and a ratchet tap holder arranged in a metal case, the main work steps for the standard range M 3 to M 12 are available in one organised set.

Application

  • for metric ISO internal threads from M 3 to M 12
  • for core hole drilling, thread cutting, re-tapping, and cleaning existing internal threads
  • for manual use with an adjustable tap wrench or ratchet tap holder
  • for workshops, assembly, service, repair, and maintenance work
  • for through holes and blind holes, depending on workpiece, thread depth, and tapping sequence

HSS-G application

  • for general use
  • for well machinable materials up to 900 N/mm²
  • for unalloyed and low-alloy steels

Note
Always select the correct thread size first, drill the core hole with the matching twist drill, and then cut the thread step by step with the first tap, second tap, and finishing tap.

Benefits

  • 30-piece set for common metric standard threads from M 3 to M 12
  • includes the matching core drills for every thread size in the set
  • each thread size is supplied as a 3-piece hand tap set with first tap, second tap, and finishing tap
  • HSS-G execution for general use in well machinable materials
  • includes an adjustable tap wrench and a ratchet tap holder for different working situations
  • metal case keeps the tools organised, protected, and ready to use
  • practical for recurring repair, assembly, and maintenance tasks in the metric standard range

Step by step

  1. Identify the required thread size between M 3 and M 12.
  2. Select the matching HSS twist drill from the set, for example 5.00 mm for M 6 or 6.80 mm for M 8.
  3. Drill the core hole straight, to the correct size, and with a suitable speed.
  4. Deburr or lightly countersink the hole so the hand tap can start cleanly.
  5. Clamp the first tap in the adjustable tap wrench or ratchet tap holder.
  6. Start the tap square to the hole and use a suitable cutting fluid.
  7. Turn back regularly to break chips and reduce load on the cutting edges.
  8. Continue with the second tap and finishing tap until the internal thread is fully formed.
  9. Clean the hole, thread, and tool carefully after the operation.
  10. Check the finished thread with the mating screw, component, or a suitable thread gauge.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

What do you use the P.V.23 hand tap set for?
You use the set to produce, rework, and clean metric internal threads from M 3 to M 12. It is especially useful for workshops, assembly departments, and maintenance teams that regularly work with common metric thread sizes.

What is included in the set?
The set includes seven 3-piece HSS-G hand tap sets according to DIN 352 for M 3, M 4, M 5, M 6, M 8, M 10, and M 12, seven matching HSS twist drills for the core holes, one adjustable tap wrench, one ratchet tap holder, and a metal case.

Why does each hand tap set contain three taps?
A 3-piece hand tap set consists of a first tap, second tap, and finishing tap. This spreads the cutting work over several stages and makes the manual tapping process easier to control.

Which core drills are included?
The set includes HSS twist drills in 2.50 mm for M 3, 3.30 mm for M 4, 4.20 mm for M 5, 5.00 mm for M 6, 6.80 mm for M 8, 8.50 mm for M 10, and 10.20 mm for M 12.

Which materials is HSS-G suitable for?
HSS-G is suitable for general use, for well machinable materials up to 900 N/mm², and for unalloyed and low-alloy steels.

When should you use the adjustable tap wrench and when the ratchet tap holder?
The adjustable tap wrench is useful for classic, controlled hand tapping with good guidance and even torque transfer. The ratchet tap holder is especially helpful where working space is limited or where short ratchet movements make the process easier.

Can the set also be used for damaged threads?
You can clean or re-tap slightly damaged or contaminated threads with the matching hand taps. For severely damaged, stripped, or no longer load-bearing internal threads, a thread repair system is usually the better solution.
