Hand tap sets for a complete size range

Instead of collecting single sizes, a set covers the whole range you need day to day: usually M 3 to M 12, plus versions for small threads from M 1, for inch threads and for left-hand threads. Ten compositions are available, from the plain tap case to the set with tap wrench, ratchet and matching tapping drills.

Which set suits your work?

Taps only

The P.K.20 in DIN design from HSS-G covers M 3 to M 12 and is the basis when you already own a tap wrench and drills. For very small threads there is a set to DIN 352 in HSS-G from M 1 to M 2.6.

With a drive

The P.K.21 with 23 pieces adds the ratchet, which lets you work in tight spots. The same build is available in HSS-E for tough and stainless materials.

With tapping drills

The P.V. sets bring the drills along: P.V.22 with 29 pieces and P.V.23 with 30 pieces, both M 3 to M 12. Everything from the hole to the finished thread sits in one case. Which drill belongs to which thread is in Calculate tap drill size.

Inch and left-hand threads

For American threads there are sets with 22 pieces from UNC No. 5 to UNC 1/2" and with 8 pieces from UNC 1/4 to 3/4". For left-hand threads a 23-piece set with ratchet covers M 3 LH to M 12 LH; how to recognise them is explained in Identify and cut left-hand threads correctly.

Material

HSS-G is the standard choice for steels up to about 800 N/mm², cast iron and non-ferrous metals. HSS-E and HSS-E VAP last longer in stainless and tough materials; the vapour-treated VAP surface holds the lubricant film better on the tool.
