Assortments in conical design
These assortments are fitted with hand taps in conical design to DIN 352 in HSS-G. Each thread size comes as a set of three, marked by the ISO 529 lead forms form A, form D and form C, with the lead getting shorter from tool to tool. VÖLKEL carries seven combinations from 22 to 54 pieces, for M 3 to M 20.
The three forms
- Form A, six to eight threads of lead: the taper tap. The long taper centres itself and spreads the load.
- Form D, three and a half to five threads: the second tap. It brings the profile almost to size.
- Form C, two to three threads: the bottoming tap. The short lead gets closest to the bottom of a blind hole.
The order is not optional. Start with the bottoming tap and it tilts and tears the thread.
The combinations
From 22 pieces with seven thread sizes from M 3 to M 12 and an adjustable tap wrench, up to 54 pieces from M 3 to M 20 with round dies. In between are sets with a ratchet, with tap drills and in plain HSS-G. All come in a case with the sizes in order.
What the case is good for
The practical value of an assortment lies less in the price per tool than in the order: the right size is there when you need it, and you see at once which one is missing. For maintenance and mobile service that is the real reason to buy a set instead of individual tools.
Other combinations: M and Mf, UNC and UNF, BSW and BSF, threading tools in drillbox. Individual tools among the hand taps.
