Combined Machine Taps

Combination tap sets

A combination tap unites twist drill, tap and countersink: it drills the pilot hole, cuts the through-hole thread and deburrs the edge in one operation, in the cordless drill, the hand drill or the bench drill. The sets contain sizes M 3 to M 10, in inch versions UNC No. 8 to 3/8 and BSW 1/8 to 1/2, in HSS-G and optionally TiN-coated.

What combination taps are for

For through-hole threads in steel, non-ferrous metals and plastics up to 600 N/mm² tensile strength and up to a thread depth of 1 x D. Typical uses are assembly work, sheet metal and profile construction, maintenance and small batches, wherever tool changes cost time. For blind holes, thicker workpieces or high-strength materials, machine taps with a separate tapping drill remain the right tool.

Working cleanly

Tool axis and hole axis must be aligned, and a cutting oil is part of the job. Speed falls with size: 1,600 rpm at M 3, 800 rpm at M 6, 450 rpm at M 10. In reverse the tool backs itself out. The procedure with pictures is in Combination bit: drill, tap and deburr in one step.

Versions

The P.K.370 contains combination taps with round shank and square drive, the P.K.700 the BSW series, the combination bit sets and the combination bit box the 1/4 inch hexagon version for bit holders. Single combination bits and all other bit tools are under bits.
