V-COIL notch: wire thread inserts without a tang
V-COIL notch inserts of type SN have a notch at the end of the coil instead of a drive tang. The installation tool engages this notch, screws the insert in and out again, and no tang has to be broken off. No loose metal part is left in the component, the insert can be fitted from either side and removed again if required. The range includes inserts in 1.0 D to 2.0 D, repair kits and installation tools from M 3 to M 12.
When tangless is the better choice
- Blind holes from which a broken tang cannot be removed.
- Hydraulics, pneumatics, engines, where a loose part causes damage.
- Series production, because the tang-breaking step and its check are eliminated.
- Rework: the insert can be unscrewed and replaced with the same tool.
Tool and procedure
Drilling out and tapping the hole run as with any V-COIL insert using STI twist drill and STI tap. The V-COIL notch installation tool picks up the insert at the notch and screws it in flush or slightly recessed. The thread can be loaded immediately afterwards.

The V-COIL notch thread repair kits contain STI tap, installation tool and 1.5 D inserts for M 3 to M 12. Refills are under tangless wire thread inserts in packs of 100. Inserts with tang, screw-locking versions and inch threads are under V-COIL wire thread inserts, all tools under assembling tools.
